This event has been held bi-annually since 1996 at top venues in Britain and Europe.
For those interested in taking part
entry is restricted to former residents of Peterson Hall, University
of Dundee.
To prevent a
logistical nightmare, only those who had a flat in Peterson in
!968-69 are eligible and a further qualifiaction demands male
occupancy of Flat 14. ( An exception may be made for Pete
Gouldthorp).
The inaugural winner at Chirk in North Wales was Ben Anderson , "The Wormwood Scrubber" , with Brian Burrows taking the highly prestigious Industry Award. Anderson successfully defended his title in 1997 but a more rigorous and sociologically based handicap system led to Scott's triumph at the famed Aberfoyle Country Club in May.
The next Open was held at Portal Golf and Country Club on 25/10/98 (near Tarporley in Chesire). The Open was hastily and brilliantly organised by Roxburgh D. in about 3 hours . Weather conditions meant a need to change the venue from Carden Park where the Nicklaus course was closed though the contestants did fill the hotel at Carden Park but not play their golf there. The conditions were wet but Burrows was at his mercurial best and romped home in the final round. (The supplier of his clubs and sponsor was Scotts of Perth ).
In October 1999 the Open finally went to another International venue and in Spain Anderson and Scott played out an exciting final with Scott eventually triumphing. The wet held back Burrows (who was having strange dreams as well). Roxburgh played some excellent golf and befriended many people including a couple of "local" Russian emigre prostitutes and an Australian.
