The Second Period

The move from Enfield Street occurred when I was about 9 months old and I don't remember much except to this day I am terrified of chimneys falling on me. This is because the day we moved my Uncle Sam took me in my pram to see Doulton's Chimney (at the end of the road) be demolished. Something went wrong and the chimney fell sideways instead of falling into itself. The result was that Enfield Street and Eldon Street were bombarded by bricks from the chimney as was I sitting in my pram! I remember only subconsciously and wont go within 50 metres of a chimney.

This is the earliest image of me that I own.

Cameras were expensive and pictures few and far between just after the war. The second photo was taken at the Festival of Britain in 1951.Who is that guy in the background - suspicious what? We spent a lot of time in London as my mother was from Walthamstow and my grand parents lived there at 184 Fleeming Road. However they were from St. Helens and Liverpool originally. My grandfather was A Bluecoat orphan and would not let me leave any food. He also had to be asked if I could have tomatoes with my breakfast.

GranThis is grandma holding a baby - could be my mother or someone else! Can't ask her.
